Story Telling
A Useful Touch to All Information Marketing
Good story telling brings in customers by appealing to them on a variety of levels.
In information marketing, story telling is always a useful addition. Whether your company markets with articles, blogs,
case studies or in another way, adding the element of story telling will liven it up. Story telling makes your information
more personal. It helps people connect and identify with the situation and with the business. Good story telling will hook
the reader who becomes interested and wants to know what happens next. Dull, fact-filled only writing risks losing the
reader’s interest before the product or service you are selling is even mentioned.
Emotions are involved when you use story telling in your information marketing. If the dilemma is described accurately
enough, the reader feels empathy, frustration or a sense of urgency. Relief and happiness floods the reader when he
learns of how the problem was solved. If the readers empathize with the individual in the story because they are
experiencing the same thing, they will seek out the same solution.
It is important to be creative in your story telling. You may want to share a story of a customer who was greatly helped
by your product or service. Make sure you get permission and use the company name if possible. You may also want to tell
the story of how your company came into being, especially if it was as the result of finding a solution to a common business
problem. Alternatively, if you have a star product, you may want to tell the story of how it is fabricated. Regardless of
the type of story telling you do in your information marketing, make it compelling.
You can make a story reach out and grab your audience by sharing something personal or giving them a step by step account
of some aspect of your business. The one thing you should definitely avoid doing is giving too little information and
leaving the reader wanting more. This is not endearing for the reader.
If your business is striving to use effective information sharing in its marketing plan, be sure to include good story
telling. This will help draw in your readers, or listeners if you have audio on your site. Offer your own story or testimonials
in story form so other businesses can see the value of what you are offering. Even though you are marketing to other
businesses, it is still an individual who will make the decision about which company to go with. The company that makes a
connection on some level with that person is often the one who wins out.
